Professional Therapeutic Carer
Job description
About the Role
You’re the kind of person who thrives on challenge, brings resolve to the hardest moments, and finds purpose in walking beside young people who’ve been through more than most adults ever will. If that sounds like you, this role will feel like home.
We’re seeking Therapeutic Assessment Pathway Professional Therapeutic Carers (PTCs) who are curious, grounded, and steady in the storm. If you’ve worked in adventure therapy, residential care, youth work, outdoor education (or learned your lessons through travel and real-world experiences) you’ll understand what it means to show up with presence, flexibility, and a nervous system that can hold big emotions without flinching.
This is relational, intentional care for a young person. It asks you to show up with compassion, insight, and a willingness to keep learning.
About Us
At PIC, we believe healing happens in relationship. Our Individual Social Pedagogy model, inspired by a proven German framework, values reflection over reaction, curiosity over control, and connection over compliance. If you’re ready to contribute to a life-changing practice, build meaningful attachment with a young person, and join a team where your resilience, life experience, and emotional depth are recognised as skills, this is your next step.
What is a Therapeutic Assessment Pathway (TAP)?
A TAP is a structured yet flexible, short-term care experience designed for young people in Out-of-Home Care. Over 12 weeks or more, travelling around Australia or the world, you’ll create safe, enriched environments where trust grows and possibilities emerge.
The purpose of a TAP:
Forge trust through shared experiences and meaningful conversations
Provide emotional, physical, and psychological safety
Observe and reflect on strengths, challenges, and aspirations
Deliver insights that inform future care planning
Every TAP is unique, tailored with creativity, travel, and opportunities to help a young person rediscover hope.
About You
We’re looking for professionals who:
Share our vision for improving outcomes for young people in care
Hold qualifications in youth work, outdoor leadership, social work, or similar
Have experience supporting young people with complex needs
Demonstrate emotional intelligence, adaptability, and crisis resilience
Thrive in mobile, decentralised, and dynamic environments
The Adventure Awaits
We’re a 100% mobile organisation. You’ll need:
Comfort with mobile tech and remote communication
A valid driver’s licence
Willingness to travel across Australia (including extended overnight stays)
Apply Now and turn your skills into something extraordinary. Change a life. Shape a future. Start your journey as a TAP PTC today.
